Just sharing a new Ficus Carpella I picked up at Ken Huth's nursery last week. The tree is 32 inches tall and 12 inches across at the the base. The move from Ken's greenhouse to my sunporch has been a little stressful for the tree. I am seeing some leaf yellowing and dropping but nothing to terrible yet. I am sure the tree will do just fine once it adjusts. Ken included one of his BIG pots but repotting will have to wait until the tree settles in. See everyone at the meeting on Sunday. Mike

Well that is just amazing!

That is almost a show tree already!

Nice find.

Which is your front? I say photo #2, as it leans towards you and the roots looks better.

Which Front?

The front in photo 2 would be best except for 1 small problem. This is a grafted tree the Carpella foliage has been grafted on Retusa understock. A large number of the roots you see down low actually have retusa foliage growing from them. There are several 3/4 inch thick shoots coming up and creating alot of the dramatic roots you see. I have cut them back some but if I remove all of them then I fear those roots will be lost. The solution is to graft some Carpella foliage onto these shoots and then develop from there. So for now I think the best short term front is going to be photo 1. The 3 year plan is to develop a front using the view in photo 2.
