Theft
Apparently now I have to worry about security. Within the last day or two one of my bonsai trees was stolen from my yard. Thankfully all my tropicals are indoors already.
Does anyone have any good solutions to this? I can't put up a fence since I don't own the property (I'm renting half a duplex). This tree was sitting on a bench against the south-facing wall of my house, not publicly visible unless you walked between mine and my neighbor's house from the street and continued on past my garage to the alley.
Are there some kinds of cables or something that works well without wrecking the look of the tree?

I have always been worried about theft, because my stand is partially visible from the front yard/street. I have a motion light on the back of the house that is in range of my bonsai trees, but those motion lights don't do much.
I thought about running a cable through the pots and wrapping it around my bonsai stand, but that is a huge hassle. If the thief wants it, they could always just pull the tree out of the pot as well.
Bonsai theft is horrible because the thief doesn't know how much work you have put into them, and they probably don't know how to care for them. Also, they would probably have a very limited selection of places to sell the trees. It's not like the local pawn shop is going to buy it.
The thief is probably a local kid thinking they are "neat". If the thief is a real bonsai enthusiast, they would probably direct their efforts towards better trees.
